Hi, thanks for visiting Mulu Photography, I'm Neil, the founder of Mulu. That's me above, I know, so handsome!
Firstly though, congratulations! You are getting married, How exciting!
So, straight off the bat, I love floral shirts! Chances are that when we meet I will have a floral shirt on, so be kind. Other stuff about me:
I have an addiction to spicy food...the hotter the better, be warned
I went to art school to satisfy my creative urges...yes, art schools are everything you think they are
I started out my working life at the BBC...yes, I have some stories of the rich and famous!
I won an interactive Bafta and my team were nominated for four others...after parties at the BAFTA's are eye-opening!
I worked in TV and radio as a producer for 18 years, perfecting how to story tell...lots of late nights in edit suites
I have written four picture books for children, but sadly not published (hello publishers!)...what was I saying about storytelling...
I'm a decent drummer, terrible guitarist, ok at the bass and pretty good at the ukulele (four fingers, four strings, that's how I roll)
I'm a terrible snowboarder, despite decades of trying! But I remain enthusiastic
I love fashion photography history, especially the 60's and 70's when the greatest change came about in editorial photographs
My favourite photographers, among many, are Bailey, Duffy, Leibovitz, Avedon, Bourdin, Lindbergh and Peters
How did I end up here?
Those rock and roll days in the media couldn't last forever and when children came along I swapped it for wedding photography.
As a wedding photographer, I have been capturing memories for ten years and I have covered all styles of weddings from Hindu to Druid and Sikh to same-sex weddings right through to the traditional white dress wedding and Humanist weddings.
My locations have included country manor houses, village fete marquees, great halls, art deco cinemas, farms, golf clubs, temples, open-air venues, traditional churches, the list goes on.
When it comes to pre-wedding shoots I have also had some surprises, including a mad hatters theme, a dance studio right through to haunted old chapel ruins (allegedly haunted, they seemed on good behaviour the day I was shooting).
I trained in photography at art school and then under two very established wedding photographers who taught me how to see and anticipate moments, a valued lesson (thanks to Lovegrove and Garrard)
My approach to weddings
I love taking photos! Just as well given the career choice, but I also love weddings, the emotion, the fun, the details of every wedding that ensures no two are the same. These factors make for a unique mix of photos for your day, so should be treated uniquely.
Hopefully, my passion and enthusiasm shine through in the images. I provide a mix of candid, natural shots and a touch of elegance with some lightly posed shots to capture two different sides of your day.
So what's a Mulu wedding? Well, it's all about you and the fun and emotion of your day and I will work with you to ensure your coverage captures all of those special moments that have taken months of planning. I have put some points below as to why I think documentary wedding photography works best. But remember, I also do a small amount of tasteful light posed shots, so you have elegant choices as well as raw emotion
Let's start with a chat...no obligation or hard sell, just great coffee and a chat about your plans and Mulu Photography. That way you can see whether I am the one for you, after all, we will be together a lot on the day.
Sound fun? Then feel free to get on touch.
Look forward to hearing from you!
Why Documentary Wedding Photography?
Look back on genuine memories and reactions, not what a photographer wants you to do
You get to see things you missed on the day
It's perfect if you don't like a lot of posing and a bit camera shy
